After a course of at least 6 treatments hair growth would have significantly reduced. In most cases, any regrowth will be finer and lighter in colour.
Laser hair removal technologies are specifically designed to target stubborn, unwanted hair, while ensuring the patient experience is as comfortable as possible.
The pigment in the hair absorbs the energy delivered by the laser device. This energy retards the hair from the very root, right down in the hair follicle. This in turn stunts the hair growth, significantly reducing the hair in the treated area, in some cases removing it completely.
The patient can just lie back and relax while a highly trained Aesthetic Therapist performs the treatment.
'Permanent reduction' is more appropriate phrase. This means that although laser hair removal with these devices will permanently reduce the total number of body hairs, they will not result in a permanent removal of all hair. The specific claim granted is "intended to effect stable, long-term, or permanent reduction" through selective targeting of melanin in hair follicles.
As a guideline, we suggest patients have 6-8 sessions. When treating the face, it is advisable that patients come to the clinic every 4-6 weeks, whereas body hair should be addressed every 6-8 weeks. Not only will consistent treatments provide better results in the long term, it will also allow for the hairs to be treated in the best stage of growth. It is safe to have laser hair removal during the summer months with the Soprano Titanium however it is best to avoid having laser treatment immediately before exposure to the sun, as this can significantly increase your susceptibility to burning.
Even in winter months patients should use a good SPF, which not only help protect the skin from sun damage and help age the skin better, but also acts as a barrier from harmful UVA and UVB rays.
We require all patients to have a patch test at least 24 hours before laser hair removal. This can be done during your initial consultation, where you will discuss with the clinician what treatment plan is best for you. The patch test is essential to make sure you do not react to laser treatment, and that the correct settings are used.
Hair density, colour and skin types are all factors that our Aesthetic Therapists take into consideration when providing laser treatment. A full assessment is made on what parameters are used, what machine is used, and you will be given a realistic plan for what results you will see, and when to see them.
Laser treatment it not advisable for those who are pregnant or breast-feeding.
For the initial patch test, you will not need to prepare the area, as this will be done by the clinician. However, it is advisable that you shave the area before treatment. The clinic has means for dry shaving, but to avoid shaving rash and discomfort, it is best that patients come shaved to their appointment.
With any laser treatment, there will be a warm sensation during treatment. Depending on the pain threshold of the individual, some find it bearable to slightly uncomfortable, while others do not register any pain.
When having a course of treatment, patients should not wax, bleach or pluck. Without any hair, there will be no pigment for the laser to attach to, meaning treatment is futile. It is best to let the hairs grow, or to shave prior to treatment.
