Tattoo Removal in Belfast, NI, Guernsey & Jersey
Tattoos come in all manner of shapes, sizes, colours and types, and while the ink used is made up of insoluble, indigestible coloured particles that are inserted into the dermis, we can work to reduce and fade unwanted tattoos with the help of laser technology.
Tattoos are often classified as professional, amateur, medical or cosmetic and at the Aesthetic Skin Clinic we treat every patient and every case with the utmost sensitivity and professionalism as unwanted tattoos can often cause self-consciousness and extreme distress.
The Q switched laser is the latest in a new class of state of the art technology specifically designed to treat tattoos and successfully remove them. Black tattoo pigment absorbs all laser wavelengths, making it the easiest to treat. Other colours can only be treated by selected lasers based upon the pigment colour.
Treatment itself involves short pulses of energy that are absorbed through the skin. Extreme heat and acoustic shock waves fragment the pigment in the tattoo ink, shattering the particles. The body’s natural healing processes destroy the tattoo particles through immune responses, lymphatic drainage, and superficial dermal tissue growth and by a reduction in the size of the ink particles to such a small scale that they are invisible to the naked eye.
In order to gain the best results, the majority of patients require a course of 5-10 treatments, at 10-week intervals. This allows the body to heal before the next session of treatment.
A consultation and patch test is required before the treatment course commences. This allows our qualified practitioners to ensure the right settings are used for your skin and to eliminate the risk of adverse reaction to the device. This, ideally, needs to be carried out at least 48 hours before the first tattoo removal session.
