Stretch Marks

Growth, fluctuating weight, hormonal changes and pregnancy frequently result in stretch marks.

They also tend to occur in adolescents who are rapidly growing. Stretch marks aren’t dangerous, and they often disappear over time. Although they start off pink, they eventually turn a silvery colour as they age. It is best to treat stretch marks while they are still new, as there is a much better chance of reducing and improving their appearance. Mature stretch marks can also be improved, but simply might require higher intensities of treatment and more sessions.

Men and women can get stretch marks on several parts of their bodies, including the belly, thighs, hips, breasts, upper arms, and lower back. The marks form in the dermis, the middle layer of skin that allows it to retain its shape. When constantly stretched, the dermis can break down, leaving stretch marks behind.

There are several treatments for stretch marks, but none of them are 100% effective. The degree of success will depend on your skin tone, age, amount of sun damage your skin has had, and even your diet.

At the ASC we have multiple treatments to help you improve their appearance including prescription strength Obagi Skincare, dermabrasion, medical microneedling with Intracel, Co2 laser and RF skin tightening with Thermage.
