Body positivity is something that should be celebrated and encouraged, but sometimes being confident in your skin feels impossible. It’s easy to get caught up with your insecurities and let them build up into a much bigger problem, and it can be difficult getting out of that rut.

When feeling like this, some people turn to cosmetic surgery, and whilst surgical procedures and aesthetic enhancements assist people in gaining confidence, it doesn’t help the underlying problem of not feeling body positive.

Here at Aesthetic Skin Clinic, we don’t believe you need to choose between body positivity and undergoing cosmetic surgery. So, in today’s blog, we’re exploring how the two can go hand in hand and how you can love the body you were born with whilst choosing to have cosmetic surgery to enhance your already beautiful features.

What is Body Positivity?

Body positivity is the idea that everyone deserves to have a positive body image and be happy and confident in their skin despite outside views from peers, society, and internet trolls, for example. The movement isn’t a ‘one size fits all’ approach to confidence; it means that having a positive attitude towards your body should be the norm, regardless of your size, height, weight, and appearance.

The body positive movement includes a list of goals:

  • Addressing the unrealistic body standard set by society
  • Encouraging the acceptance of all body types
  • Encouraging people to build their body confidence and accept themselves
  • Challenging the outlook on bodies that society has created

Whilst from the outside, this sounds like a movement aimed at loving your natural body, as a cosmetic clinic, we’re here to explain that it’s all about loving and accepting all bodies regardless of enhancements and cosmetic surgeries.

Is Cosmetic Surgery a Body Positive Choice?

The short answer is yes; cosmetic surgery is a body positive choice. Nobody should feel shame for having undergone cosmetic enhancements, and you shouldn’t feel as though you cannot celebrate your body even though your breasts may not be natural or you have had a fat removal surgery.

People choose to have cosmetic procedures for many reasons, but most are looking to improve their confidence. Whether someone chooses our liposuction in Jersey or our facelift surgery in Guernsey, we see people come into our clinic daily to build on their confidence and who have chosen the cosmetic surgery route to do it. This choice doesn’t make someone less entitled to being body confident.

Why You Don’t Have to Choose Between Body Positivity and Cosmetic Surgery

Cosmetic surgery is a way to help someone feel more comfortable in their skin, and when done correctly by a reputable clinic such as ourselves, can have an ever-lasting effect on someone’s self-image. There is no choice between being confident in your skin and undergoing cosmetic enhancements, the two go hand in hand.

Whilst some surgeries and aesthetic procedures act as a quick fix for altering someone’s appearance, they don’t quickly change any deeper issues surrounding body image. They can help you build on your confidence, but any underlying self-confidence issues must be addressed separately – cosmetic surgery cannot make these thoughts disappear.

How Can Cosmetic Surgery Improve Your Confidence?

If you have a particular area of concern or a specific part of your body that’s bothering you, cosmetic surgery can help. For example, many women who have recently lost weight or have been through pregnancy come to us for our breast augmentation in Jersey and Guernsey. This surgery can help restore volume, alter the size, and uplift the breasts if they have lost elasticity or have decreased in size. The breasts are, of course, an area of a woman’s body that holds femininity, and if they don’t look or feel as a woman might like, they could feel insecure and lack body positivity.

Going through with breast augmentation or having breast implants doesn’t make you any less of a natural woman, and it shouldn’t be embarrassing or uncomfortable to admit.

How Do You Know if Cosmetic Surgery is the Right Choice for You?

If you’re insecure in yourself or have negative views of cosmetic surgery, it may be difficult to know whether this is the right path to go down for you.

It’s essential to choose a reputable clinic such as ourselves to complete your surgery so you have the confidence that you’re in safe hands from your consultation right through to the downtime and aftercare. Aesthetic Skin Clinic’s medically trained and award-winning staff will talk you through your options during your discreet consultation, allowing you to voice your insecurities and discuss your goals. From this information, we can have a discussion on our recommendations, with absolutely no pressure to oblige. We would much rather you go away to think about your decision before rushing into an agreement and later feeling regret.

Why Can’t You Rely on Cosmetic Surgery Alone?

As mentioned, cosmetic surgery doesn’t fix all problems. Whilst it’s an excellent choice for a confidence boost or to tackle a problem area that’s been bothering you for a long time, it doesn’t fix underlying issues.

Additionally, as much as our skin lesion removal in Jersey and Guernsey is fantastic for removing warts, moles, skin tags, and other skin lesions that bring down your confidence, it’s crucial to ensure no medical issues concern them. So before you turn to aesthetics, make sure to go to your local GP for a check-up.

Finally, we have a broad scope of surgical and non-surgical treatments if you’re looking to tackle stubborn fat, but they should not be used in isolation. Many of the surgeries require you to keep up a healthy balanced diet and exercise to see the best results, which is the best choice for your physical and mental health regardless of having undergone any cosmetic surgery.

We hope this has been informative, and you now have a better understanding of how body positivity goes hand in hand with cosmetic surgery. It’s important to reiterate that you don’t have a choice between the two; you can be body confident and not feel shame for undergoing cosmetic enhancements. Speak to our team today to discover how we can help you reach your goals and become the best version of you.
