Minor Surgery: Shave Excision

Many lumps and blemishes can be removed in the surgery with minimal discomfort, excellent healing and no scarring. Depending on the lesion to be removed, various minimally invasive techniques can be used.

Raised and unsightly benign skin lesions can be easily removed by shave excision.

A local anaesthetic is injected , causing a small sting like sensation, but renders the rest of the procedure painless. The lesion is then shaved down flat with the surrounding skin with a scalpel, and the are a cauterised. A small plaster will be applied for 24 hours and the area should be kept clean and dry for 4 days and treated as a small burn. On healing the skin may look slightly paler or sometimes more red for a few months, but will normally re - pigment to leave a healed area which appears similar in colour and texture to the surrounding skin.
