Plastic Surgery: Liposculpture

Liposculpture can be used to contour and remove excess areas of fat deposits, giving a more even and defined appearance and less dimpling of the skin. Numerous areas can be treated including legs, abdomen, bottom, arms and chin. Small incisions are made in the area being treated, and sutures will be removed after 7 to 10 days. A maximum of 3 to 5 litres of fat can be removed during the procedure, and this will be fully assessed at the time of consultation.

Following the procedure, which can be carried out as a day case, bruising is common, and a pressure garment will need to be worn for 6 weeks to ensure a smooth result. Complications are rare, but include bruising, swelling, fluid collections, numbness, loose skin, scarring and asymmetry.
